We are always looking for ways to make life easier for EV drivers, which is why we are happy to announce our recent partnership with GIREVE, who we are now roaming with. GIREVE is supporting the development of electric mobility by helping to build an open market for these sustainable services. This new partnership with GIREVE will make us more accessible to electric vehicle drivers and ensure that these drivers can easily locate our charging points and use their own mobility solutions to pay. Tim Revill, Chairman of Plug-N-Go commented – “Being connected to GIREVE is an important step for our company as we will have the opportunity to be located and accessible to most EV drivers in the UK. This connection will increase the rentability of our charging points and will participate in the global service improvement for all EV drivers.” We currently have 72 charge points and with this new connection to GIREVE we will have exciting potential to further develop and place chargers in more locations across the UK. Find your nearest Plug-N-Go charge point with our app here.

Furthering their sustainability efforts, East of England Co-op has formed a new partnership with Plug-N-Go so that customers visiting their stores can charge while they shop. Each location has EV Charge Points where customers can charge their vehicle while making their essential shop. To make locating the charging points even easier, customers can find their closest site using the Plug-N-Go app, Zap-Map, Google maps or What 3 Words. With seven charging sites currently in operation and another 14 planned over the next year, this partnership will help many more areas in the East of England get access to charging sites for their Electric Vehicles, hopefully encouraging more people to make the change to electric. The partnership between East of England Co-op and Plug-N-Go has already seen one site have a complete overhaul of new hardware, with other sites planned for similar upgrades. This means that not only will customers be able to charge their vehicles while they visit the independent retailer, but they can do so with updated equipment to ensure the best results.

With the UK heading into a second lockdown, EV charging company Plug-N-Go announce that not only will their charging points continue to run throughout the lockdown, but they have a range of charge points located at essential retailer outlets allowing customers to charge while they make their essential trip to the supermarket. With restrictions in place on journeys, EV charging points offer the chance for people to top up their car while they top up your cupboards, all in one trip to the supermarket. This combination will not only save people time but reduce the number of reasons they need to head out. Whether in need of a quick top-up or a longer charge while they do their shop for the week, having access to EV charge points in supermarket carparks is ideal for shoppers. CEO of Plug-N-Go, Keith Hounsell, said: “At a time where every trip out of the house counts, it’s great to be able to provide our customers with an opportunity to save time and make the most of their shopping trips.” To find the closest supermarket with an EV charging point, download the Plug-N-Go app.

Making the switch to an electric vehicle doesn’t just mean swapping out your drivetrain – it’s also a lifestyle shift. Instead of regular trips to the petrol station, EV drivers mostly charge overnight at home. However, for many drivers without off street parking, public charging infrastructure is needed to charge up at destinations they already visit, like supermarkets, leisure centres and public car parks. Unfortunately, types of charge point and payment methods differ wildly from place to place in the UK, and the etiquette of charging your electric car can be difficult to navigate. That’s why Chris Schofield developed the smartphone app ‘NeedToCharge’: “NeedToCharge is the friendly way to share a public charger. Free and easy to use, it allows fellow EV drivers to safely and securely let you know they need to use the charger you’re plugged into. Simply sign up to NeedToCharge online or via the app, print your personalised NeedToCharge disc and display it in your car. This lets fellow EV drivers know they can enter your registration number at needtocharge.com to tell you they need to use the charger you’re plugged into. They don’t need an account, and nobody needs to share any personal information. NeedToCharge […]

Yesterday, BBC News published an article about the effect of the UK’s enforced lockdown on air pollution. This drop in NO2 has been directly linked with the reduction of polluting ICE (internal combustion engine) cars on the road, and levels in some cities are down 60% from this time last year. Many individuals and organisations are calling for a review of what ‘normal’ looks like when this is all over. Improving air quality is vital for public health, and protecting the natural environment. There are two main takeaways of how we can improve going forward. The first is the cause of such drastic changes in air quality over these past few weeks; driving less. The prevalence of home-working tools and digital conferencing has woken businesses up to the possibilities arising from cutting out lengthy commutes or unnecessary travel. While driving is absolutely necessary for some industries, much of what we’ve been doing in an office out of habit could be done at home.

However, when driving is a necessity, zero emission vehicles can help negate the impact on local air pollution. Electric cars are quickly becoming a staple of the UK’s transport portfolio, as workplaces and fleet managers open their eyes to the possibilities of depot charging and huge cost savings on fuel.

The improvements we’re seeing at the moment, devastating as the circumstances may be, are a preview of what could be in 5-10 years – provided the support is there. EV charging needs to be widespread, accessible and affordable if the industry is going to accelerate as fast as it needs to, which is why Plug-N-Go’s mission is so vital.

As part of its commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint, Devon law firm Stephens Scown LLP has introduced electric vehicle (EV) charging points at its Exeter office. The firm now has three EV charging points at its office in Southernhay West, which were installed by EV charge point company Plug-N-Go. The charging points at Stephens Scown’s Exeter office can be used by visiting clients for free, as well as by employees at the firm. Sonya Bedford MBE, Partner and Head of Stephens Scown’s Energy team – who owns an electric car herself – worked closely with Plug-N-Go during the installation. She sees the new charging points as a step towards a more sustainable way of driving: “The government has set 2035 as the latest date that petrol and diesel vehicles will be banned in the UK, and before then the country needs to have more charging points in place for the switchover to electric vehicles. Stephens Scown is preparing for the future well ahead of time. “Our decision to install EV charging points at our Exeter office was motivated by a desire to help our employees and clients who have EVs or may be considering getting one soon.
Sonya Bedford MBE, Partner and Head of Stephens Scown’s Energy team – who owns an electric car herself – worked closely with Plug-N-Go during the installation. She sees the new charging points as a step towards a more sustainable way of driving:

“The government has set 2035 as the latest date that petrol and diesel vehicles will be banned in the UK, and before then the country needs to have more charging points in place for the switchover to electric vehicles. Stephens Scown is preparing for the future well ahead of time.

“Our decision to install EV charging points at our Exeter office was motivated by a desire to help our employees and clients who have EVs or may be considering getting one soon. We selected Plug-N-Go to install our EV charging points because of their expertise and the installation went smoothly.”

Stephens Scown’s Energy team has also worked with a number of companies across the South West to provide advice on installing EV charging points, and expects more of this type of work as the fossil fuel vehicle deadline approaches.

The new charge points support Stephens Scown’s Giving Back program and efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. The firm has also installed EV charging points at its Truro office.

Keith Hounsell, Founder and CEO at Plug-N-Go, says:

“It’s great for Stephens Scown to encourage employees’ adaption towards unlocking their potential to reducing the company’s carbon emissions in the city of Exeter and onwards throughout the UK.

Stephens Scown has over 300 staff, including more than 50 partners, across its offices in Exeter, Truro and St Austell. It is the highest ranking law firm from the South West in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For. For more information, visit www.stephens-scown.co.uk.

According to Zap-Map’s latest survey, 94% of drivers rely on public infrastructure to charge their EVs, using services like Zap-Map or Plugshare to locate and use charging stations. Charge points are often designated with signage and clearly marked bays, at car parks for hotels, restaurants and other public facing businesses.

“As a charge point operator, we need to think about the driver’s experience using our charging stations above all else. We spend a lot of time refining the process to make them as easy to use as possible, and a big part of that is actually finding the charge point. I’ve seen first hand what it’s like to drive round a car park in the rain, scanning for any indication of a charge point that’s supposedly there – using what3words removes that hassle completely.”

what3words is the new addressing system that has divided the world into 57 trillion 3m x 3m squares, giving each square a simplified address made up of three words. For example, the National Trust Powys Castle and Garden can be found at ///limits.pads.rust. It means anyone can talk about everywhere in the world – in just three words. It’s available in over 40 languages and is available for free on iOS and Android, and via the online map.
